A 20-year-old supports students from orphan's homes with 76 000.- crowns
29. January 2008
Estonian Children's Fund celebrates its 20th birthday by giving educational stipendies to those students who come from orphan's homes and study at university. The amount of stipend (given already 19 years) is 4500.- crowns this year, besides that all grantees will get gift tokens of Apollo Book Shop.
There are 16 grantees, altogether they will be supported with 76 000.- crowns. 8 grantees are from Christian Youth Home, others from Palivere Childrens' and Youth Home, Tallinn Childrens' Village Maarjamäe Center and from Voka, Narva, Keila SOS, Pärnu, Kuressaare and Narva-Jõesuu orphans' homes. Grantees study at Tartu University, Tallinn University of Technology, Tallinn University, Räpina Horticulture School, Tallinn Health College, Tallinn Pedagogical Seminar, Tartu Aviation College, ABO Akademi in Finland and Uppsala University in Sweden.
The fund of stipend has been formed together with the help from Junior Chamber International (Rat Race 2007), Estonian Union of Student Body (ISIC), Priit Press&Lilled flower shop(Rose project) and Grenader Grupp OÜ (Christmas postcards).
There are about 1800 children in orphans' homes, into universities get few of them. „I think our grantees have had moments in elementary or high school where their growers have helped them through resentment. Now where the goal - higher education - is almost there, money should not be a clog of achieving this goal“, said Sirje Grossmann – Loot, executive director of ECF. She added: „There are enough grantees, maybe a little bit less supporters.“
Handing over the stipendies will be on the 1st of February 2008 in Tartu.
