JCI organized the best charity event through the years!
19. June 2007
For the 6th time a youth organization JCI Tallinn organized the traditional office-rat race (Rat Race), this year it was better than ever before, concerning the number of participants and collected money for charity.
There were 384 runners who were converged into 81 teams, both governmental and private sector. Rat Race gathered altogehter 185 000 Estonian krowns, of which 100 000 is being addressed to educational stipendies of children from odphans homes and with the help of 85 000 krowns a JCI Children's Playground with a free entrance was organized.
"The knowledge of charity has risen in years," said Merit Miller, JCI Tallinna President 2007. "I'm proud that for the 6th time now the organizers are the members of JCI Tallinn, who make this all happen voluntarely," added Miller. „Since this year Rat Race took place in child protection day (1st of June), we decided to aim the charity to this also. We are happu to continue our cooperation with Estonian Children's Fund, who helps orphans at universities with the money we help to gather,” explained Miller.
”The long trip to education is very hard on orphans. Backup - this is a family, where you can express your anger and happiness, it is discussions and pies in your bag, it is the simple question "how are you?", it is money given to you secretly by your grandmother and much more that is so axiomatical to the children who have a family," said Sirje Grossmann-Loot, an executive director of Estonian Children's Fund. "Unfortunately the reality shows that very few orphans continue their studies at university. I am convinced that the monetary support is the least we can do and that it gives the youngsters an extra motivation to study," added Grossmann-Loot. ”Estonian Children's Fund has 20 years of experience on giving the stipendies and our estimation to Rat Race as a charity event is very high. We are grateful to the organizers of Rat Race and to all the companies who have helped us," accentuated Sirje Grossmann-Loot.
